Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

A: Lack of basic research. Especially when it pertains to specific locations a story is set in. If you are going to use a real city as a plot setting, have the respect to your readers to actually do some research on it. I once read a book where an Oregon city was placed in Washington instead and don't even get me started on 50 Shades where Portland is apparently in Washington between Vancouver and Seattle. *rolls eyes* Look at a damn map! At the VERY least!!

Crying For The Moon by Sarah Madison

I won a print copy of this book, which I received a few days ago. Finally having some quiet time, I sat down to read it. It took me about 2 hours start to finish, but I slowed down a little to enjoy certain... parts. LOL

The writing was quite well done, with only a few errors, and the flow was perfect. Sarah has wonderful writing skills that draw you into the story, even if the story is about a house betraying its new owner with all it's crumbling quirks, at first. The characters all had interesting side stories, which were introduced here and there to explain their personalities and quirks quite well. I find that to be a hard thing to do in a story that holds so many peripheral characters that are vital to the story.

My thoughts on the villian's dastardly plot were that it was a bit thin. The main character, Alex, is not dim-witted by any means, but he couldn't see what Victor was trying to do? I saw that when the first mention of him and his reaction to Alex's relocation was brought up. So, that aspect of the story, was a bit thin.

I didn't go into this for a mystery however, which is good because certain other elements, which I don't want to spoil, were very obvious. Who the characters all 'were' was pretty easy to figure out, including their supernatural inclinations. I still liked the mythos of the supernatural that was used, though. It wasn't insanely different but just enough to make things fun.

There are elements left that I'd love to see explained in later stories. Why Nick's people have so little money. The aftermath of Victor. Alex's plans to do with Victor's little reveal about their past. The progression of the relationship between Alex and Tate. Tate's past. There's certainly a lot left to be explored. I'd definitely buy follow up books to Crying for the Moon.

Shattered Heart by Nikki McCoy

MM Dystopian M/s *Content Advisory*

Shattered Heart was a very dark story, but one I still enjoyed. I really liked Corin's character, for the most part. I felt that his revelation, and reversal of his feelings about Markus, was a bit understated when Markus had his little revelation though. The emotions the book brought out seesawed in me. Sometimes I was okay with their relationship progression and others I simply couldn't 'believe' it. That lack of ability to tuck their happiness together into a neat package had nothing to do with the Master/slave dynamic, which I have enjoyed before, but more that it just didn't feel like it was the proper fit between them, even at the end. Then again, I might not be making at sense at all; the feeling I was left with created such a vague dissatisfaction that it's hard to pinpoint any one element and say, "This, this is what is bugging me." Usually I can.

The writing itself flowed quite well, and I didn't notice many errors. The plot was pretty predictable, as were the characters, but I still stayed up super late to read the story simply because I wanted to know for certain what would happen. I had to. That eclipsed my slight issues and made this a 4 star story for me. I appreciate the author's ability to write such a controversial genre, and do it pretty darn well.

My review: Thanks Branflakes, now I'm gonna have nightmares! You add in some interesting bits to consider. Like, was she always nuts? Or was it a 'gay' thing, after her comments about how Texans don't like gay people? How'd she know the cop? Was it the guy she was arguing with and they just didn't notice?

My review: Long. Complicated. Very angsty and the drama was a bit extreme, but I still read this start to finish over 2 days. I liked it, just felt that a lot of the scenes could have been pared down to make this a more readable story, with a tight plot.

Wednesday Briefs: Never More Lonely Part 7

This week's prompts revolved around Halloween. There were some great pictures as well as several line/object prompts but I since Halloween didn't quite fit into what I had planned for this week, I went with the line of 'It's alive!' instead. Happy Reading!

Never More Lonely Part 7



"It's alive!"

I make a face at Cooper. "That's gross."

"Hey, mate, it's in your refrigerator. I think the bowl might actually be growling. We need to buy new storage bowls too; I threw one out that had Halloween candy so old that it had all melted and cemented to the inside of the bowl!"

Cooper put the food that was still good in a box as he cleaned out the fridge. "I can't wait to finish this up. We're almost done moving."

Some friends from my jobsite came by and helped us with the furniture. We're just doing the final clean up. Cooper nearly runs his fingers through his hair, grimacing at his gloves at the last minute.

"I can't wait to get clean. Hot shower, then fall into bed."

"I'm tired too," Cooper chuckles, "but we have to make it first."

I wave that away. "Details." Unable to resist, I lean down and kiss him, parting his lips gently and sucking on the lower one until he groans. My voice is hoarse when I speak again. "Maybe I'm not that tired."

"Uh-huh." Cooper grins.

We've been home for two weeks. We finalized the lease paperwork on our new duplex apartment. It's twice as big as my place; my furniture looks a little lost in the enormous living and bedroom but we can get new furniture together. The second bedroom was perfect for my computer, and Cooper was going to set up his home office in there.

Leaving Australia was hard for Cooper. We hadn't gone to see Pete again but he'd been a specter along with us for the entire trip to the airport. The silent strain showed on Cooper's face and the rigid set of his shoulders; our departure had hurt. I hated it. I wanted to make Cooper happy and I couldn't.

I listened to him talk but suggested that he find a counselor. He'd made an appointment for next week.

But right now we're happy. We're moving into a new place, together, and that's something I never would've considered possible. I used to work, then come home to a silent apartment while I waited to Cooper to come online, just to have someone to connect with. I slept, and woke up, alone.

Now he's with me. We sleep snuggled together, and I get to wake up every morning to his gorgeous face. Every night I can touch him, taste the salt of his skin and the spice in his kiss. And sink my cock deep into his body. 

Tucker slams the fridge shut, taking off his gloves. "I think that's it. You done?"

I've been scrubbing the same spot for a few minutes.

"Yeah."

We put the box in the car then throw out the trash. I lock the door one last time.

Our duplex has dark blue siding and white trim. We'll have to get a lawnmower because, for the first time ever, I’ve grass to trim. The smell of paint’s strong inside, the interior newly remodeled with rich wood floors and cream colors.

I shove the food box into the fridge then peel off my shirt off. "Shower?" I ask.

He shakes his head. "You start. I'll be just a minute."

"Okay." I'm already unsnapping my pants.

The hot water streams over my head. Cold hands slide across my chest and I yelp. Cooper snickers. "Stop laughing." I wipe water off my face and glare at him playfully.

"You didn't hear me come in?" His eyes are sparkling.

"No."

I jockey around, letting Cooper get under the water. I love to watch it slide over his body. He lathers up his hair as I wash his body. He hums happily. His cock is growing as I step close to wash his back.

Dropping to my knees, I wash his legs, then his smooth balls. His cock is hard as I run the cloth up and down.

"That feels good," he groans. I push him back under the water to rinse him off. He gets the shampoo out of his hair as the bubbles slide down his body until he's rinsed. Then I can't resist.
